History of SYPTE 1831 (JKW331W)

1831 is a Leyland Atlantean with unusual Marshall bodywork. The South Yorkshire PTE were the only operator to order this combination. 1831 was new in March 1981 to Herries Road Garage and is the sole survivor of the batch of 30 identical vehicles. 1831 also operated from Greenland Road garage, and Doncaster’s Leicester Avenue depot before being withdrawn and sold for further service to Merseypride, Liverpool.

It was from here that it was purchased for preservation in 1998 and was rallied for the first year. The engine was very tired and was using a great deal of oil so it was laid up, work pending.

Since then the vehicle has changed hands several times and due to its rarity is now owned by the SYTT. We have a replacement engine for it, but in addition to that the engine bulkhead requires replacement. Externally, a full re-panel will be required and there is structural work to do to stop the staircase and centre doors from wobbling around.

If you feel that you can take this vehicle on and give it the attention that it deserves, then please get in touch with the SYTT at syttevents@mail.com
