History of SYPTE 1655 (XWG655T)

1655 is a Leyland Atlantean with Roe H45/29D bodywork. It was new to the Doncaster district of the SYPTE in December 1978. As far as we are aware it is the sole survivor of this batch of 74 vehicles (1601 to 1674).

After service with SYPTE and SYT is saw further use on contract work with Holloways of Scunthorpe, before passing to dealer Norths, Sherburn.

It was acquired for preservation by the 1655 group who carried out some restoration work on the vehicle. Since then it has been stored at various locations, and changed hands a few times.

Today it sits looking rather forlorn, desperately needing care and attention The vehicle does start and run well, but it is a major project, needing major attention to the bodywork.
